Fear itself

Humans of Late Capitalism is one of those snarky Twitter accounts that posts without-comment photos meant to show how squirrely our world is today.  This photo, though, tells us a great truth.

Fear is information; don't ignore it.

Think about it.

To help you think about it, go back to what we know about kanban, the task organization method I talk about in Lichtenbergianism: procrastination as a creative strategy.  The two principles of kanban are

  2. Limit your workflow (have only 3–5 sticky notes in your Doing column)
I use the bottom of my monitor for my DOING column.

I use the bottom of my monitor for my DOING column.

One of the effects of using kanban to manage your TASK AVOIDANCE is that you begin to notice what you're procrastinating on.  Why do you keep avoiding that particular task?

There it is: fear.  Fear of starting, fear of failure, fear of not knowing how to "do it," fear of messing it up, fear of the irritation, fear of...

Fear is information.  Don't ignore it.

Name it.
