Fun Friday Resources

So you want to buy my book but can’t stand Amazon? Fair enough. Try BookFindernew, used, you name, it’s there.

In a similar vein, instead of using Google or other search engine to find a recipe (and having to scroll through all the cruft to find one you like), use Recipe-Search, which is exactly what it sounds like. For example, look at all the versions of tomato soup you can make!

Even better, you can click on the Read cooking directions link, and it will pop up the actual recipe so that you don’t have to read all about Great-Aunt Myrtle’s travails raising five children alone.

(Yes, I too will open a can of Campbell’s Tomato Soup and enjoy it — try adding some beef bouillon and basil! — but if I have the time, then I’m going to make something yummier.)

Man, if I had had access to a treasure trove like the Smithsonian’s Open Access when I was a young, my career as a collage-ist would have taken off and you’d be reading about me in those tony art magazines. As they say on the site, they’re offering nearly five million “2D and 3D digital items from our collections—with many more to come. This includes images and data from across the Smithsonian’s 21 museums, nine research centers, libraries, archives, and the National Zoo.” STEAL FROM THE BEST!

The Large Cat, print by Cornelis Visscher, Netherlandish, 1629-1658

Ooh, look, kitties!
