Fun Friday Resources
/Just because time has no meaning any more doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate. I mean, today is National Bow Tie Day — let joy reign unbounded.
You can find out a reason to celebrate (most legit, some less-so) at a variety of places. Which Weird Holiday Falls On Your Birthday is a good place to start.
Here are a couple I used to use with 3rd graders to teach them how to use the intertubes: Holiday Insights and Wellcat. (Wellcat helped in the assignment, which was to find holidays for your birthday, rank them, and — like Wellcat — create one if none of them worked for you.)
Wikipedia’s On This Day section on its homepage always has tidbits of info if you wanted to celebrate something unofficially. If you click on the date’s link at the bottom, you’ll get a whole list of events, birthdays, and deaths for today.
And of course, you will want to keep track of Drink Days. Since there’s not an alcohol-related celebration for every day of the year, here is my official ruling: every drink day obtains until the next one comes along. So today, Aug 28, is still National Whiskey Sour Day (Aug 25) and will remain so until Australian Craft Gin Day on Sep 1.
