Fun Friday Resources

Let’s do some heavy thinking today.

First, a Big Think video about the “science” of creativity. It’s solidly produced, and its message is familiar to any Lichtenbergian: MAKE THE THING THAT IS NOT. (They came this close to saying it in the video — humans are different because we can Make The Thing That Is Not.)

You may have heard of the Enneagram, a nine-pointed star with nine different personality types, another way to understand yourself and your approach to life, the universe and everything. In an article over at doist.com, Bonnie Friedman gives a great overview of how each type handles work and stress. I like how she gives the salient points for each type along with links to helpful resources for that type.

Yes, I know it’s odd that I have just recommended an article on a website devoted PRODUCTIVITY and GETTING THINGS DONE, but I think it’s important to understand how you can best AVOID TASKS.

Finally, Douglas McLennan’s deeply thought and felt essay on what the arts world needs to discuss and come to terms with about rebuilding after the pandemic. I don’t know about where you live, but here the Newnan Theatre Company is shut; Backstreet Arts is shut; concerts are canceled. On the grander side of things, Broadway is shuttered until 2021. Museums are struggling to stay open. It’s not looking good.

And on that depressing note, I think I shall go decorate my lizard.
