Fun Friday Resources
/Here we are, still in the first year of the Captivity, and you’re getting slack. No, not Slack, hate that thing, but slack only not in the good way.
If this is a problem — and I’m not for one minute suggesting it might be — you could try wrangling your TASK AVOIDANCE a bit by trying New Day New Me (not to be confused with the crappy YA novel I wrote for a final exam, Twelfth Night, New Day).
This website allows you to schedule your day in a way that makes sense to you. This is especially useful if, like me, you know you have things to do but you have a deep-seated fear of getting them all done and so you just coast through the day not getting (m)any of them done.
Speaking of planning to get things done, here’s a macabre take (especially given our current Circumstances): Write your own eulogy. What is it you want said about you? That you finished that novel? That you were cheerful and helpful to others? That you made a ton of money off the suffering of others? Your choice.
Finally, although my first choice for a daily WASTE BOOK is the Field Notes Brand notebook, I tend to use other notebooks for actual projects. Here are four I really like:
XYTMY leather diary notebooks: good for journaling. I use one at Backstreet Arts to prevent myself from dithering.
Dot Grid Notebook: numbered pages, dot grids. I used one for As You Like It, to plan the production and then each rehearsal.
Fabriano EcoQua Notebook: blank pages, sturdy paper. I’m designing an epic art piece for Alchemy in one right this very minute. (Share soon, promise.)
MUJI Notebooks: lined, smaller than the others, only 30 sheets. I’ve used them for shorter writing projects, like my as-yet-untitled children’s book.
This is by no means an exhaustive list. Remember that I — like most of you — am a member in good standing of Waste Books Anonymous. There are always more cool notebooks. Always. More.
