I’m a slow composer, and I’m certainly not the kind of musician who writes pop stuff constantly. Instead, I work on one project at a time, slowly building up each piece.

If you, on the other hand, are constantly throwing off little scraps of ideas of tunes/bass lines/hooks, this new tool may be just the thing to WASTE BOOK your ABORTIVE ATTEMPTS. It’s called SongRiffer, and it’s an app that lets you catalog your bits and pieces for easier retrieval. It’s free (at least for the moment) and looks fairly complete in its approach.

Meanwhile, the Smithsonian has launched its Open Access program. If you’ve ever wanted to rummage through “America’s attic,” now’s your chance.
