/Need images?
Here’s PixelMob, with both free and stock photo images. The results appear in a rather languid fashion, so don’t be annoyed when the first few seconds show that there are 0 free photos.
The Drawbrary is a gateway to illustrators’ work, so it’s a bit more involved than PixelMob — no search engine on Drawbary, for example. But if you’re diligent in your exploration, the illustrations are first rate.
How about photos from newspapers for the first half of last century or so? The Library of Congress has you covered with their Newspaper Navigator, part of their Innovator in Residence Program.
The LoC is always a good source for great images. Here’s their Maps of Cities collection, part of their Free to Use & Reuse series.
And if you’re the sort that needs icons in your design, try teenyicons. You can resize them, make them solid or outline, and clicking on an icon copies it, ready for your use.
