Fun Friday Resources

Two resources today, one for TASK AVOIDANCE and one for RITUAL.

First — because TASK AVOIDANCE is Job #1 — take a look at Open Heritage/Cyark's site of World Heritage sites in 3D.

It's pretty cool, and you can waste hours there.  You're welcome.

The second resource is a playlist of the "50 Best Ambient Albums of All Time" over at Open Culture, which like all such lists is open to debate.

Still, if you're like me and most writers, you use music as part of your RITUAL to get into the space where we do the work — and ambient music is great for that.  As I mentioned in the book, when I was translating Marriage of Figaro for my swansong at Newnan Theatre Company, I would put on Steve Roach's Dreamtime Return as I began work, and those opening pulses would carry my brain straight into the circle.

My favorite story about writers and their "soundtracks" for their books involves Michael Cunningham and his beautiful The Hours. As he constructed his novel from the bones of Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway (STEAL FROM THE BEST), he used a playlist consisting mostly of Philip Glass.  When the novel was adapted for the screen, Philip Glass was hired to score the film. Cool circle.
